Evidence in Bones

This Google Slides lesson is part of the Evolution: Unity and Diversity lesson set.

“I’d like you to help me identify some bones.”

The slides include animations so that more information can be revealed slowly. As each piece of information is revealed, the teacher can ask these questions:

What do you notice?

What do you see that makes you say that?

What questions could you ask?

What animal do you think these bones are from?

What evidence do you have?

The goal is to help students look very carefully at the images and see how similar the bones are between whales, humans, bats, lizards, etc., prompting the eventual question, “Why are their bones so similar?”

If you are teaching online, you may want to share your sound and load the whale song before class, so that you can play it after showing all the images.
