Number Lines and the Coordinate Grid, Part 2

Number Lines and the Coordinate Grid (Part 2) is available at the link above. Part 1 is available here.

Every number can be thought of as a point on the number line. Because of this, number lines are important for all kinds of mathematics. Number lines are used in algebra, geometry, statistics, and many other kinds of mathematics.

In Part 1, students will study the following topics:

  • Plotting points on a number line, including fractions, decimals, and signed numbers
  • Measurement and distance on a number line
  • Absolute value

In Part 2, students will study these topics:

  • Plotting points and interpreting points on the coordinate grid
  • Drawing lines and shapes on the coordinate grid
  • Data on the coordinate grid (including scatter plots) and correlation

Interactive Connections is a collection of DESMOS activities that provide online, interactive activities and supplemental practice for teachers and students using the Fast Track GRASP Math Packet, Number Lines and the Coordinate Grid, Part 2.

Note: If you are teaching with the packet, we recommend breaking it up into smaller pieces. We created a step-by-step guide for folks who are not sure how to break a PDF file into smaller chunks: Breaking Up is (not) Hard to Do.

If you use these materials with your students, please give us feedback on the experience (teacher surveystudent survey). Your feedback on the packets will help us improve the materials and support our students’ success.

Both the PDF and document versions here are the most up-to-date versions. We recommend checking this page regularly to see if there have been any version updates.

The Fast Track GRASP Math Packets are made available for teachers who work with students in distance learning, Fast Track Math classes, and traditional ABE/HSE classes. The packets provided practice in high-priority topic areas by developing underlying concepts as an introduction to each topic. Students then are given practice applying what they have learned in context. Students work through HSE-style questions followed by guidance on test-taking skills and explanation of answer choice design. Finally, an optional section on the language of the math topic is provided. We hope that this section is helpful for all students, but especially useful for lower-level students and English Language Learners. (Click here for more information about other Math Packets)
