Adaptation of Growing Number Patterns (ABE/HSE, high level NRS 2)

The NYSED/CUNY Fast Track GRASP Math Packets are student-facing materials organized by different topics in math. The activities in the packet are sequenced so that the concepts build as students develop an understanding of the topic. Since the materials were written for self-study, adaptations for the classroom are encouraged.

Tim Berrigan, from the Brooklyn Public Library, created this adapted activity from the Growing Patterns section of the Tools of Algebra: Linear Functions Part 1 with ABE/pre-HSE students. The Growing Patterns section is part of the introduction to working with functions focusing on different types of patterns (repeating, growing, and visual). See Tools of Algebra: Linear Functions, Part 1 for other activities in the sequence and more support.

Tim removed some of the descriptive text and shares the questions he asked, so that he could control the pacing and spend as much time as necessary to let his students master the material.
