Containers (interpreting key features of graphs)

This task was developed by the folks at Illustrative Mathematics. High School Equivalency teachers will find it useful when preparing students for the following CCRS standard:

For a function that models a relationship between two
quantities, interpret key features of graphs and tables in terms of the quantities, and sketch graphs showing key features given a verbal description of the relationship.

The task asks students to look at a series of differently shaped vases and consider filling each one up with water at a constant rate. Students have to match a graph to a particularly shaped vase and explain their reasoning. There are more graphs than vases. As a final step, students have to draw a vase for each of the unmatched graphs.
