Reading Skills for Today’s Adults

This website is ideal for low level readers and those who need fluency practice to do on their own. With levels from 1-16, each level features approximately ten texts on a wide range of topics, for instance: Snow Emergency, MLK Day, Pay Yourself First, Young Children and Water, Madam CJ Walker, Hybrid Cars, Dealing with Grief.

The best feature of the website is the audio: students can read along while listening to an audio of the text read at three different speeds: slow, medium, and fast.

There are also sets of questions attached to each text that students can print out and write answers to, and each text also includes supplementary worksheets with vocabulary, close paragraphs, and fill-in-the-blank exercises.

  1. I can’t wait to try this resource with my students! A perfect resource to use in my multi-leveled classroom. I really like all of the different levels and the questions and additional activities for students to do either on own or as a group.
