Slow Reveal Graphs: Current Events

A reminder that data and statistical literacy are skills necessary on the high school equivalency exams as well as our lives. The CUNY Slow Reveal Graph Collection has over a hundred graphs rendered with a slow reveal treatment, ready to use in class.

There have been many new additions to the collection, especially in the Immigration Slow Reveal Graphs Folder.

Below are descriptions of the some new graphs, as well as the first image of each slow reveal sequence:


Deportations of People Arrested Within the United States (2012-2025) looks at the number of deportations each year within the past four presidential administrations.


Daily ICE Arrests By Arrest Location looks at the the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests that happened at prisons/jails and the number that have happened in communities, between 2024 and 2025.


Daily ICE Arrests By Criminal History looks at the number of ICE arrests that have been people with violent convictions, people with other past convictions, people with pending criminal charges, and people with no criminal charges.


Share of People Arrested by ICE with no criminal record (2025) is a map graph that looks at what percentage of people arrested by ICE in each state had no criminal record. (NY has the highest percentage in the country).


US undocumented immigrant population by state, 2022


Department of Homeland Security Forces in MN vs 10 Largest Twin Cities Metro Police Forces (Jan 2025) compares the number of DHS officers in the state of Minnesota to the number of police officers in the largest metro police forces.


ICE Arrests in NYC looks at the percentages of ICE arrests in NYC each week between Jan 2025 and October 2025, comparing those who had criminal convictions versus those who had pending criminal charges, and those who had only civil immigration violations (no criminal charges).


Immigration and Customs Enforcement Budget (2017-2025)


Leading Countries By Crude Oil Reserves (billions of barrels) looks at the the size of the crude oil reserves of the 15 countries with the largest reserves. The one at the top of the list has about 1/5 of the world’s proven crude oil reserves.
