Peppered Moths: Natural Selection in Black and White

Click for resource → URL

This web site includes a short reading on the life cycle of the peppered moth, the impact of pollution during the Industrial Revolution, a brief explanation of Darwin’s theory of natural selection, and a simulation where students can be a predatory bird eating moths. At the end of the simulation, students are able to see how a change in coloration of the trees can affect the predominance of different coloration in the population. This is a nice introduction to natural selection with possible connections to topics in social studies.
